Matanuska Glacier Hike

Standing on ice that took centuries to form completely reset my sense of scale. Our guide explained how the dark stripes running through it are debris carried down from the mountains, and suddenly the whole glacier read like a timeline instead of just a pretty backdrop. Worth every mile of the drive out from Anchorage.
